At the foot of the Landeskrone (an ancient, no longer active volcano), lies the city of culture Görlitz. Its geographical position tells a lot about the history of the city. In summer, the holiday region is transformed into a colourful playground for little explorers and grown cyclists. Small but powerful: Big enough to offer everything this country has to offer and small enough for a home-like "home feeling". If you want, you have an easy accessibility to the state capital Dresden.
If you make your holiday in our hotel, you have the possibility to look into the Upper Lusatia region, which is a region in eastern Germany. It belongs with 67 percent to Saxony and with 30 percent to Poland. Three percent are located on Brandenburg territory. In the Free State of Saxony, Upper Lusatia includes the districts of Bautzen and Görlitz.
Cities worth seeing:
- Görlitz with the historic buildings on the Untermarkt and one of the best preserved old towns in Central Europe
- Kamenz "Lessingstadt" with the Lessing Museum and the Lessing Tower on the Hutberg
- Bautzen with the Sorbian Museum, the Bautzen Memorial and the Mustard Museum
- Zittau, the large district town (the fifth largest in Upper Lusatia)
- Löbau, the third largest town in the district of Görlitz
Cycling, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, is wonderfully possible in the vicinity of the Hotel Marschall Duroc. Partially on the doorsteps lies the Landeskrone, on the doorstep lies the Landeskrone, the 420-meter-high local mountain of Görlitz, which you can perfectly use for hiking. The Königshain mountains are also ideal for hiking tours. Some of the routes lead past former quarries, which have been filled with water a long time ago. Not far from the former railway station of Königshain, there is an educational trail for granite mining.
In south of Görlitz, the Berzdorfer See spreads out over around 960 hectares. Anapproximately 18-kilometre-long circular path runs around the former opencast lignite mine which which runners, cyclists and inline skaters like to use. The lake invites you to swim in several places during the season.
Görlitz is located on two national long-distance cycle paths. Not far from the Hotel Marschall Duroc, the Oder-Neisse cycle path touches the city, which is also a station on the Saxon city route. This connects, among other things, four towns of the Six Towns League founded in 1346, including Bautzen, Löbau and Kamenz.
The Neisseland tour is also recommended. On this route, which is around 150 kilometers long, cyclists can get to know Silesian Lusatia. The circuit connects more than 40 sights, leisure facilities and hospitable houses that are either directly on the route or not far away. These include the baroque castle complex in Königshain, Krobnitz Castle with the adjoining landscape park, the Quitzdorf reservoir, the old gingerbread shop in Weißenberg and the culture island of Einsiedel in Zentendorf.
